About Bourii
Bourii was born between two worlds. Ancient and modern, spiritual and scientific, Persian and Ghanaian, lost and re-remembered. What began as a search for balance became a collection of meaningful potions, hand-blended in our London studio to honour time, scent, and the nervous system.
On quiet days, the studio fills with the clink of glass beakers and the warm scent of vetiver and citrus, a ritual of slow beauty and care. Rooted in Ayurvedic wisdom and deep respect for plants, Bourii unfolds like memory, healing, and scent on skin.
It’s a slow rebellion against the synthetic, the rushed, the overpromised. A return to something felt. Something remembered.
\Words from Bourii Founder,
Shirin Van Lare
My journey to Ayurveda didn’t start as a career. It started as a need.
When my brother was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis at 26, we searched for care beyond what conventional medicine could offer, something more human, more whole. Ayurveda gave us a new lens, one that tended to the root, not just the symptoms.
Later, when I faced hair loss, anxiety, and adult acne, I returned to these ancient practices. Working with cold-pressed oils, Ayurvedic extracts, breathwork, and touch, I found rituals that softened my body and eased my brother’s skin and tremors. It wasn’t just skincare, it was care, full stop.
While travelling in Southeast Asia, I skipped a relaxing island stay to spend time at a temple outside Bangkok practicing Vipassana meditation. I’ll admit, for the first few days I thought I was mad. Waking at 4:30am, sleeping on a concrete floor, and cleaning toilets as a working meditation wasn’t exactly my idea of a holiday. But eventually, I found my rhythm and peace. That time gave me a quiet knowing: I wanted to study Ayurveda.
I trained full time, not to launch a brand, but to live differently. Though I loved body oils, I didn’t feel they could truly help my brother, or me. I wanted to create oils that honoured the plant from soil to bottle and shifted the senses, the mood, the day.
That’s how Bourii slowly took shape. Today, it’s built on efficacy, sustainability, and love for craft. I travel often, sourcing rare ingredients, encouraging suppliers to work with small MOQs and support small businesses like ours, and collaborate with artists and makers. Bourii isn’t clinical, it’s intuitive, sensory, and shaped by the places I’ve lived and loved.
From London winters to Paros summers, Persian and Ghanaian traditions, and rituals rediscovered in scent and soil. Bourii brings those worlds together to offer something that brings you back to yourself. Slowly. Softly. One layer at a time.
Bourii isn’t just another natural oil. It’s a destination.
AYURVEDA
Ayurveda is the world’s oldest medical healing system dating back over 5000 years. It brings science, philosophy and spirituality together and the word ‘Ayurveda’ comes from two Sanskrit words – Ayur, meaning ‘life’ and Veda, meaning ‘knowledge/science of’.
In Ayurvedic philosophy, human beings are viewed as the microcosm of the Universe because we are made up of and interact with the five basic principles of all creation: the elements of Ether (space), Air, Fire, Water, Earth.
These elements govern our physical and mental processes and Ayurveda focuses on bringing the five elements into balance to harmonise doshas and bring about greater health.
THE DOSHAS
Ayurveda groups the five elements into three energies or forces known as doshas – Vata / Pitta / Kapha, which provide a framework for understanding how the five elements interact within the body and the world around us (each dosha is the synergy of two elements). Ayurveda seeks to reduce excess doshas in order to restore balance and equilibrium at all levels of our being.
Just as we have our own unique fingerprint, we each have our own unique constitution or balance of these three doshas. There are parts of each dosha in our makeup but most of us show dominant signs of one dosha. By understanding the balance of our doshas, we can connect more with our body and its needs - from how to nurture optimum skin health, to restorative rituals that cultivate wellness within.
Below are examples of qualities that appear in people with each dosha and some of the issues that can arise when they are out of balance. Observe which attributes are dominant for you. This will be the dosha you most want to address when choosing skincare. If you feel that your skin type is dual-dosha (has the dominant characteristics of more than one dosha), you can use our body oils interchangeably to address the different imbalances.

We know it’s difficult to be good for the planet when creating new products but our passion for skincare and wellness is directly proportional to our respect for nature.
The health of our planet is interconnected with our wellbeing and we don’t want to compromise on either, so our packaging has been developed with the below criteria:
Our bottles are of the highest quality and made in Italy. Their design, inspired by the lotus flower, has been developed to be easily refilled and reused.
