About Bourii

Bourii was born between two worlds. Ancient and modern, spiritual and scientific, Persian and Ghanaian, lost and re-remembered. What began as a search for balance became a collection of meaningful potions, hand-blended in our London studio to honour time, scent, and the nervous system.

We think that a different approach to skincare is possible. In a modern world which increasingly lacks harmony, we invite you to turn to Nature to heal us. That’s why the products we have developed for you are intentional and functional. We are an independently owned business, producing hand-blended, small batch products from our studio in London. We have ethically sourced the highest quality botanical ingredients from near and far and consulted with experts in the fields of natural perfumery and aromatherapy. We use delicate essential-oil blends that sink into the skin and through the olfactory system to do their job.

Bourii draws on ancient practises to achieve skin health while working towards being part of a more sustainable, soulful and healthy future.

We take your skin seriously but we don’t take ourselves too seriously. We’re the free-spirited, plant loving, sun-gazing, moon-worshipping cosmic beings and we’re here to share our Bourii world with you.

On quiet days, the studio fills with the clink of glass beakers and the warm scent of vetiver and citrus.

Rooted in Ayurvedic wisdom and deep respect for plants, Bourii unfolds like memory, healing, and scent on skin.

A slow rebellion against the synthetic, the rushed, the overpromised. A return to something felt. Something remembered.

\Words from Bourii Founder,
Shirin Van Lare

My journey to Ayurveda didn’t begin as a career. It began as a need.

When my brother was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis at 26, we searched for care that felt more human, something that could tend to the root, not just the symptoms. Ayurveda gave us a new lens. A softer one. A wider one.

Later, facing my own health, skin, and emotional imbalances, I returned to these ancient practices. Through cold-pressed oils, Ayurvedic extracts, breathwork, and touch, I found a rhythm that softened the body, quieted the mind, and brought ease to the day. It wasn’t just skincare, it was care, full stop.

While travelling in Southeast Asia, I skipped a relaxing island trip to practice Vipassana meditation at a temple outside Bangkok. Waking at 4:30am, sleeping on a concrete floor, and scrubbing toilets as a working meditation didn't exactly feel like wellness, but slowly, something shifted. I found stillness. I found rhythm. I knew I wanted to study Ayurveda.

I trained full time, not to launch a brand, but to live differently. Though I loved body oils, I didn’t believe the blends available could truly help my brother, or me. I wanted to create oils that honoured the plant from soil to bottle and moved the system and tuned the senses. That's when Bourii began to take shape.

Today, Bourii is built on plant efficacy, sensorial depth, and love for craft. I travel often, sourcing rare ingredients, encouraging suppliers to work with small MOQs and support small businesses like ours, and collaborate with artists and makers. Bourii isn’t clinical, it’s intuitive, sensory, and shaped by the places I’ve lived and loved.

From London winters to Paros summers, Persian and Ghanaian traditions, and rhythms rediscovered in scent and soil. Bourii offers something deeper.

Not just another natural oil.

A destination. A return.

AYURVEDA

Ayurveda is the world’s oldest healing system, dating back over 5,000 years. It weaves science, philosophy, and spirituality into one approach to living. The word comes from two Sanskrit terms — Ayur meaning “life” and Veda meaning “knowledge” or “science of.”

In Ayurvedic philosophy, the human body is seen as a reflection of the universe. We are shaped by the same five elements that form all of nature: Ether (space), Air, Fire, Water, and Earth. These elements govern our physical and mental processes, and Ayurveda focuses on bringing them into balance to restore harmony within.

THE DOSHAS

The five elements combine into three guiding energies, or doshas — Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. Each dosha is a meeting of two elements and offers a way of understanding how nature moves through us. Ayurveda works to soften excess in any one dosha, bringing the whole system, body, mind, and skin, into equilibrium.

Just as no two fingerprints are alike, each person holds a unique dosha balance. We all have parts of each dosha in our makeup, but one is usually more dominant. Knowing your balance means you can tune in more closely to your body’s needs, from nurturing skin health to creating rituals that support your energy and mood.

Below are some qualities linked to each dosha, and the imbalances that may arise. Notice which traits feel most familiar. This can guide you toward the oils and care your body will respond to best. If your skin reflects more than one dosha, you can use our body oils interchangeably to meet shifting needs.
